International Conference on Magnetic Materials 2010, Kolkata, India

Air: The domestic and international terminals of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) are located about 13 km north-east of Salt Lake or Bidhannagar (the venue for ICMM-2010 and the hotels organized by us). A few international airlines (Lufthansa, Bangladesh Biman, Royal Emirates, Gulf Air, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines) have direct flights to Kolkata. Alternatively, you may arrive at either Delhi or Mumbai airport. From there, there are a host of domestic carriers flying to Kolkata. The hotels may be reached easily using pre-paid taxis available at the exit point of the arrival lounge.

Train: Kolkata is well connected by train with all major cities of India. The train stations are in Howrah (on the opposite side of the river Hooghly, about 22 km away), Sealdah (about 7 km away) and Kolkata (about 7 km away). Pre-paid taxis are available at the taxi stand just outside the stations.

Visa: All participants (including spouses and companions) from outside India will be required to obtain visa from the embassy of India in their respective countries. Please enquire at the embassy for the kind of documents required to obtain the visa. The participants are requested to send the details of their passport, and the requests for necessary documents from the organizers (for example, a ‘Formal Invitation’) well in advance to facilitate the processing of visa applications.

Weather: During the conference period, it will be post-monsoon and early Autumn in Kolkata with temperatures hovering around 30 C, and humidity about 50%. You may also enjoy limited rainfall. For details, you may consult various available source of information in the internet.

Tourist Spots: Kolkata (earlier known as Calcutta) has quite a lot of interesting places to visit.
